We Don’t Want to Know

(Having a decent day? Did you get to lift your curtains without instantly being mocked for it? Step outside, ditto? Walk away from your vehicle, pretty sure it would be okay? See the sunshine for a while? Watch birds fly? Glance at a sunset? Please enjoy it, because the poet will be doing none of those things today.)

We Don’t Want to Know

When she came here
She was smiling
Always ready
To laugh and play

Now she looks like
Death warmed over ~
We like her
Better that way

Don’t ask what will happen
When we make her go
It’s not a concern of ours
We don’t want to know

Among us, poets are ill paid. In order to continue her work, this one currently lives in her minivan, on an income of a fraction of our nation’s poverty level.
