Allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Jeremiah Rosado.
I mindlessly do anything targeter Sean Powers tells me to do.
So I spend much of every night trolling back and forth past this poet’s van.
Sometimes I make little tweeting noises with my little mechanical sound maker. Sometimes I bang on a trash container. Sometimes I throw pebbles.
I do it instantly each time I hear her first snore.
I make sure to do it also the very moment her eyes come open after she does manage to fall asleep.
By the time she pushes her blanket to one side, I’m always there, ruining the very first moments of consciousness.
It all adds up to the same thing ~ perpetual surveillance, sleep deprivation, unremitting psychological torment… Voila! Eventual psychosis!
All I have to do is wait.
Because even though I’m well over six feet tall and very skinny ~ even taller and skinnier than Sean the Puppet Master himself ~ nobody’s gonna see me doing any of this.
That’s ’cause I’ve got the right daddy. And this is the United States of America in the year of 2022.
Among us, poets are ill paid. In order to continue her work, this one currently lives in her minivan, on an income of a fraction of our nation’s poverty level.
